Joey Nania with Partners Spina and Gossett Win Sylacauga Marine Big Bucks Buddy Championship! Qualify for Bassmaster Team Championship 2017

Gadsden, AL – October 29, 2017; Perseverance through cold, rain and wind won it for Joey Nania and his partners at the Sylacauga Marine Big Bucks Buddy Trail Championship last weekend.  The team posted 16.04 pounds plus big fish of 6.79 day one on Logan Martin and backed it up with 15.59 lbs day two on Neely Henry.  Joey fished with 17 year old partner Ross Spina day one and season long partner Zeke Gossett day two.

The weather was unseasonably cold and especially rainy and windy with highs around 50 degrees and winds of 15-20 mph.  Joey commented, “These conditions reminded me of fishing in the Northwest where they have an annual event called ‘The Frostbite’ on Banks Lake near Coulee Dam, Washington.  At least the guides on our rods didn’t freeze over!  We had a great two days.  The kicker on day one, a 6.79 largemouth came close to the end of the day and it was really exciting to see.”

Nania and Spina lead after day one by about ½ pound.  Regular partner Gossett joined in on day two helping to finish the job with a solid bag.  The Championship earned the team $5,000 plus big fish money, plus Bass Pro Shops/Nitro Rewards money, plus a trip to the Bassmaster Team Championship in Arkansas December 6.  On that Joey said, “I thought the tournament season was over but I guess not!”
