Joey Nania Bounces Back after Disappointing Day Two of Bassmaster Southern Open Redemption: With Partner Sapp Place 17th in Alabama Bass Trail #3 on Lewis Smith Lake

Cropwell, Alabama; April 23rd, 2017 Day two of the Bassmaster Southern Open #2 on Lake Chickamauga went almost exactly as planning for Pro Angler Joey Nania.  Joey commented on the day, “I had a solid practice, a good pattern that put me in 18th place after day one, and my pattern held up for day two.  The fish were still there, they were biting, but once hooked they (the fish) had other plans.”  Joey continued, “I almost never loose fish once I hook them.  Today, I lost fish and would have been able to turn in a good limit, but it just was not meant to be….. I guess.”

The tournament was won by John Cox with an impressive 3 day total weight of 68 lb. 3 oz.

Indeed a number of anglers reported “fish getting off” once hooked.  Perhaps due to their bedding activity they weren’t biting to eat, just to protect, who knows and as they say, “That’s fishing!”  Joey weighed in two fish for the day.  He is now ranked 46th in the 207 angler field after 2 of 3 Bassmaster Southern Open events.

Redemption at Alabama Bass Trail Event!  After leaving the Bassmaster Open in somewhat less than high spirits, Joey went on to the 3rd of 5 regular season events at Lewis Smith Lake for the Alabama Bass Trail Northern Division.  Joey and partner Russ Sapp had a solid day and placed 17th with 13.93 pounds in the field of 202 teams .  After three events (out of five) Nania and Sapp sit in 8thplace overall in the points race. Joey on the day, “Russ and I just went out, relaxed, fished hard and had a great day on the water. It is great to get a check and we are excited to be in 8th place overall for the series so far.”  The ABT is a trail designated to lead teams to the BASS Team Championship with a possible berth in the 2018 Bassmaster Classic as the ultimate prize.

Next up…..Alabama Bass Trail #4 – Neely Henry Lake, May 13 and lots of guided fishing until then!
