Joey Nania and Partner Kolby Tishler Win Big in Mark's Outdoor Open 486 Boat Field

Joey Nania and Partner Kolby Tishler (16) Win Mark’s Outdoor Annual Tournament

Plus 8th Biggest Fish for the Tournament – 486 Boat Field!

Logan Martin Lake – June 7, 2014; Joey describes the day. “I have been on fish lately on Logan Martin and I knew we had a good shot but who would dream of winning a big one day open tournament like this against John Crews, Brandon Palanuik, Hank Cherry, Mark Davis, Randy Howell, Bill Lowen, Mike McClellan and a bunch of other Elite Pros plus everyone and their Uncle in the 486 team field, but we did!

Our winning bag was mixed with two spots and three largies.  We started out the morning going directly to offshore structure catching a small limit in a hurry.  Then I hit my offshore milk run and hit a killer hump catching a 4-7 spot on 8 pound Bass Pro XPS Floro Carbon, 3/16 oz Gamakatsu Skip Gap Shaky head, 6’10 medium light tactical series rod.  Then we went to a new spot I found while guiding and on the second cast with the shaky head we caught another 4 pound spot and three casts later a 3-8 largie.  Then we worked down the ledge and came back to the main point with a football head and caught another and another 3 pounder.  We culled a lot because we caught over 30 fish.

With our smallest fish a three pounder, I told my partner we could really use a 5 pound kicker because we were thankful to have what we had and then on that very next cast, bam the 5 pounder hit.  From then on because of the heat we spent the day fizzing and taking care of the bass because it was hot and they were deep.  They all survived just fine.  We were fortunate to beat Elite Series angler John Crews by 1 ounce who caught all of his on a SPRO frog.  Hank Cherry was third.

We had a great day, and this had to be the “biggest” in terms of boats, tournament that I ever fished and won for that matter.  Plus they give away 250 free spots to youth and raise money for the Coosa System fisheries for stocking of largemouth.

All in all, I was thrilled to have this opportunity and the great fishing that we found.  The following photo is me with partner Kolby on stage with one tall first place trophy!”
