Joey Hangs on in Nail Biter Places 5th Overall and Wins Washington State Qualifies for Federation Nation National Championships

Martinez Lake, Yuma, Arizona May 20, - Joey went into day three of the Western Divisional with a 3 pound 15 ounce lead over teammate Tony Lind.  Lind brought in a solid day three bag, but Joey’s 5 fish limit was just enough to give him the Washington State title by 3 ounces.  Joey’s final day three weight included a dead fish penalty of 8 ounces, leaving him with a small un-cull able fish to deal with for his bag. The win gives Joey a trip to the National Championships in October.  If he wins the Western Division (11 anglers) he will compete in the Bassmaster Classic 2011.

Joey placed 5th overall in the 160 angler field and lead the Washington State Team (pictured below) to a repeat as Federation Nation Divisional Team champions winning a $40,000 Skeeter Yamaha boat package.

Joey had obstacles to over come the first of which was qualifying for the tournament as a non-boater.  Interestingly enough his 3 boaters for the tournament all won their respective states and included overall tournament winner Bill Golightly fishing for the Wyoming team.  Joey said, “I had a great time with all three boaters, learned a lot and enjoyed fishing with them even though, obviously if given a choice I would rather be fishing out of my own Nitro Z-8 boat.”

The National Championships take place on the Red River later in October of this year.  Joey’s next tournament action is in 1 ˝ weeks on that same river for the second of 3 BASS Central Opens.
