Joey Makes the Cut - Finishes 13th at PAA #3 on Neely Henry, Gadsden, Alabama!

August 20, 2011 - PAA Series Tournament #3 - 13th and a check!

Joey on the tournament: "I really liked this tournament!  I sang the national anthem 2 of three days, fished against some of the top pros in the world and finished 13th overall.  I am happy about my fishing performance and really happy to get a pay check!

I cranked a SPRO crankbait with Berkeley Trilene, and a Plueger Reel coupled with my All-Star rod for 6 days straight, including practice, and never lost or broke off a single fish.  I had limits every day.  The last day of the tournament the water had dropped a lot so I had to scramble to get a small limit then go hunting in new areas for a bigger bite.  I got a 2 1/2 pounder to go just before noon which saved the day.  I really would have liked one more kicker - but that is always the case! That fish hit my crankbait and immediately went under some nasty wood.  It scraped my Trilene line along a rough log and it sounded like a guitar string ready break but the line held and I managed to get her turned around and to the boat.

I encountered some adversity day one crashing the lower unit of my Merc 225 pro XS on a rock.  Nitro boats had their back up crew there and by the time I got back to the launch Happy White was there with a Nitro Z-9 all ready to go.  That saved the day and the tournament for me.

I really have the best gear in the world and it pays off.  For example, my fishing shorts - provided by Bass King Outdoor Gear- were perfect because they are light weight and comfortable even when it is 98 degrees with high humidity.

Anglers are rarely if ever totally satisfied unless they take first place, but I am really happy about my performance at this event because I put in a lot of good work and got a good result.

My hat is off to my friend Steve Kennedy who won the event with 38 plus pounds.  He had a great plan and toughed it out at the end to edge Steve Vinson by just 3.2 ounces!  Way to go Steve!"
